Is Communication a Factor in the Success of your RTO?
Communication between employees is
the main mode of relaying information in an organisation. It involves verbal
and nonverbal signals, including the use of spoken words, body language,
gestures, and eye contact.
This is why effective communication is essential for any organisation, especially for RTOs.
Businesses are built on human connections and personal relations and this is true for RTOs; thus, they're built on effective communications. It sounds easy peasy to some but it actually requires time, effort, and a whole lot of strategising.
For this reason, proper communication skills must be taught. They cannot be acquired naturally. Training helps develop the skills needed to teach effectively. Instructional communication starts with training, which includes practising teaching roles within courseware and actual classroom instruction. Additional training improves communication skills even further.
All educational institutions need to be sure that administrators, teachers, tutors, learners, and trainee staff members are in sync and that the systems for communicating among them are clear and effective.
What can you do?
If you are someone who trains the people, you need to connect with everyone who
enrols in your course or training program regardless of his/her previous
experiences, academic abilities, or field of study.
On the other hand, people working
on a team must be able to communicate effectively by creating an inclusive
environment and establishing common ground so they can talk to each other and share
ideas.
Why is effective communication important in RTOs?
There are several reasons why and how it would result positively to the education and training part. Let’s find out.
1. It brings about a soaring
retention percentage.
2. It enforces a positive learning
environment.
3. It boosts the test results.
4. Gives an increased number of
enrollees completing the courses.
5. Improves the student and
trainers’ relationship.
6. Boosts the students’ morale.
7. Increased productivity rate.
8. Refines the whole learning
experience.
You see, when you define an RTO vision, there’s an opportunity to bring together the best elements of what you’re doing now with the best elements of what we’ll be in the future.
Here are some tips:
-
Listen carefully
and show understanding for others' feelings.
-
Take time to
invite collaboration from all team members. Don't be afraid to let them speak
up even if they disagree with you. It's important for them to feel comfortable
sharing their ideas and opinions. And remember, no one person needs to be able
to "win" every argument.
-
Listening to
the concerns and openly admitting the discomfort that comes with changes can be
an effective leadership strategy. Many companies have already built effective
vehicles for encouraging such conversations, including pulse surveys, focus
group sessions, and individual "walk-throughs." Use these tools now
to boost the chances of listening to your people.
In having a training business, you need to be consistent in giving
clear communication. This, in fact, is critical. Make sure that everyone in
your organisation understands what needs to happen and how they fit into the
process.
That means communicating clearly about what tasks each person
should perform and who is responsible for whom. And make sure everyone feels
involved in the planning process, both during the initial stages and throughout
the entire project. This allows them to share ideas and ask questions along the
way.
A knowledge of the basics of the communicative process indicates
the start of the understanding needed for the effective communicator. Clearly
recognising the varying barriers to communicating effectively furthers the flow
of information both ways.
The trainer or educator should understand that effective teaching requires the
development of appropriate communicative strategies. In the end, only true
assessment can determine whether good teaching has been accomplished.
